How often in the new year do we set goals for ourselves?  A resolution, most people call it.  Resolutions, or yearly goals, are typically one of the following: lose weight, eat healthy, save more money, spend more time with family.  Today is January 12th.  How many of your yearly goals have already fallen to the wayside?  It’s not even the end of the first month of the year and many of us have already let our goals fall behind our busy schedules, children’s activities and social lives.

In this article, James Clear reminds us that we should be putting systems together instead of setting goals in order to better ourselves and achieve greatness!

James teaches us to “Fall in love with systems” – “None of this is to say that goals are useless. However, I’ve found that goals are good for planning your progress and systems are good for actually making progress.

In fact, I think I’m going to officially declare 2014 the “Year of the Sloth” so that everyone will be forced to slow down and make consistent, methodical progress rather than chasing sexy goals for a few weeks and then flaming out.

Goals can provide direction and even push you forward in the short-term, but eventually a well-designed system will always win. Having a system is what matters. Committing to the process is what makes the difference.”
